Sun Tea - Without the Sun

Good morning! Today I'm headed into the city again to take care of some more work-related items. I'm actually sitting on the bus as we speak - gotta love free WiFi!

Breakfast this morning was a toasted light English muffin with PB2. I also had an orange on the side. I actually ate breakfast while I was running around getting ready to leave, so hope you don't mind a recycled photo. Winking smile

I'm having lunch with a few colleagues in the city today and they might find it odd if I start snapping pictures of my plate, sooo instead I'm going to share this iced tea with you. It's really not a recipe - I mean, I'm sure you all know how to make tea - but maybe you haven't thought of making a iced tea in a while?

I started making iced tea again a few weeks ago when the weather really started to warm up, and I'm not kidding you when I say we go through a pitcher of this stuff a day during the summer. It's so light and refreshing, and I love my water, but sometimes I just need a drink with some flavor!

To make my tea, I just fill a large stockpot with water and bring it to a boil. Once it's boiling, I turn off the heat and drop in 6 black tea bags (I use decaf since caffeine after 3 PM keeps me up all night). I let the tea steep in the pot for a few hours, until it comes to room temperature. Then I fish out the tea bags, add about 1/4 of lemon juice and pour it into a pitcher. That's it!

I like my tea unsweetened, but you could of course add some sugar or Truvia if you like. When my sister and I were kids, I used to add a half cup of sugar while the tea was still hot so it would be slightly sweet. We also used to put our tea out in the sunshine in glass jars to make "sun tea," which is nostalgic and sounds nice, but I've found that it doesn't really change the flavor and is just more work for me. So, stovetop tea it is!

Enjoy your Wednesday - we're halfway through the week already!

  1. So, how much water do you use for 6 tea bags?

    1. I don't measure the water, but I'd estimate about 6 quarts. So I guess that'd be one tea bag per quart of water. Hope that helps! :)
